World's first brain prosthesis revealed
The world's first brain prosthesis - an artificial hippocampus - is about to be tested in California. Unlike devices like cochlear implants, which merely stimulate brain activity, this silicon chip implant will perform the same processes as the damaged part of the brain it is replacing.

Mind Control - towards a psycho-civilised society
"The individual may think that the most important reality is his own existence, but this is only his personal point of view. This lacks historical perspective. Man does not have the right to develop his own mind. This kind of liberal orientation has great appeal. We must electronically control the brain. Someday armies and generals will be controlled by electric stimulation of the brain."

Director of Neuropsychiatry

Re: brain-tech interfacing: good & bad
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 5:46 AMChycho, Peter, you're most welcome.
Don't know if you've gone through some of the older posts here, but you'll find a thread which lists a bunch of mind control sources, including further references to the severely unethical practices of J. Delgado. He was a real piece of work that one...
darker side of the spectrum
transhuman.tribe.net/thread/...982f2bdd
Thanks for the google link. I'm 50 minutes into it. Hugo DeGaris who's featured in the docu used to run an AI lab here in Brussels at the now defunct Star Lab in the late 90s (until 2001 I believe). Last time I checked he had set up shop at a university somewhere in Utah. Very interesting fellah. They're doing some pretty advanced functional ocular prosthesis work here in Belgium; visual mapping for artificial sight applications and such. Would love to do a docu on Trans Humanism myself in the foreseeable future...
You have a pretty cool site there Chycho. Keep up the good work! -

Re: brain-tech interfacing: good & bad
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 6:52 AMThe link to the Audio Tooth Implant which I listed in the 'darker side of the spectrum' thread apparently went down.
Here's some updated info.
Excuse me, is your tooth ringing? (LOL)
www.mindcontrolforums.com/news/...ng.htm
The Audio Tooth Implant
"A micro-vibration device and a wireless low frequency receiver are implanted in the tooth during routine dental surgery. The tooth communicates with an array of digital devices, such as mobile telephones, radio and computers. A dedicated device (also acts as the long-range receiver) is used to fully customise the set up for each individuals personal requirements."

‘Audio Tooth’ design by James Auger & Jimmy Loizeau, 2001. Mibec (micro-in-body-electronics-corporation) was invented as a platform to launch an experimental idea – a miniature telephone embedded in a tooth. The audio tooth is presented as a radically concept in personal communication to test the response of the public. It went public as the best inventions of 2002. There are no plans to put the audio tooth implant into production. [ source: www.designboom.com/contempo...ught.html ]

Some of their other projects include: Social Tele-Prescence
"Tele-presence can be defined as the experience of being fully present at a live (non-virtual) location remote from one's own physical location. Effectively removing the visual and aural senses from the body’s location and having them operate in real time from somewhere else. Tele-presence is currently being used for military and exploratory purposes allowing the body to exist in dangerous or inhospitable physical environments. This project uses similar technology but explores its use in a social context."

Re: brain-tech interfacing: good & bad
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 11:23 AMI think a Transhumanism documentary would generate a lot of interest. What little I've seen so far is either biased heavily against it (mostly mainstream media pieces, portraying all transhumanists as whackos), or rather fuzzy on the science. -

Re: brain-tech interfacing: good & bad
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 12:48 PMExactly Peter. The docu Chycho linked to was pretty cool though, in the philosophical realm.
I find myself often trying to sway people away from the materialistic interpretation of uploading consciousness and such as an ego driven trend. It is simply a natural evolution as a consequence of our inquisitve human minds which any grounded human being ought to consider. Most of the things we humans think up ends up coming to life in due time. Moores Law stands.
I'd love to produce a programme which investigates the current state of the art "cybord" tech if you will, from hearing aids to brain "prosthetics." -

Re: brain-tech interfacing: good & bad
Wed, April 25, 2007 - 1:44 PMOne of the most important pieces of work ever produced on humans and technology integration is “Ghost in the Shell” … there are two one major feature films and 52 TV episodes (I’ve only watched the first 26 episodes – twice :) … highly recommended
