Nice example. I'm not convinced this is truly an AI doing all the talking and thinking though :)
    Still nice.

I believe that we inhabit an open universe, and that life as we know it represents a mere stepping stone onto an extropic pre-destined path. I also believe that we exist for the purpose of growing beyond our current limitations. As such, I further believe that we may rest in the confidence of having been given a clear go-ahead towards achieving this "predestined purpose" by all means necessary... should there be an all-governing force of any kind which called this whole cycle of 'being' into existence in the first place :)

good question ... guess we might find out when transhumanism really kicks into high gear :)

I've been busy replying and posting comments to that video ;-)

Some folks suggest that in losing our human bodies and becoming machines as well, we will have caused our own extinction...

This is part of evolution, one form making way for another. Ask yourself, what were we before we became human? I see it more as an adaptation to better fit our changing environs, including space. Upgrading the human wetware, and hardware, is part of evolution as well. It is a scientific certainty that our sun will die at some future point. What then? Also, why? For what purpose? How about this: to push life into evolving beyond the limitations of the second law of thermodynamics, and thus, to transcend certain heath-death? [see dissipative structures]

'What is a human being, then?'
        'A seed.'
        'A... seed?'
'An acorn that is unafraid to destroy itself in growing into a tree'

        -David Zindell, The Broken God

We will co-exist with higher post-human "artificial" intelligences, if we make it that far, which I think we will.

JUPITER-BRAIN: A posthuman being of extremely high computational power and size. This is the archetypal concentrated intelligence. The term originated from the concept (by Keith Henson) that nanomachines could be used to turn the mass of Jupiter into computers running an upgraded version of himself.

I recommend you check out Anders Trans human pages, if you haven't yet.

This page deals with trans- and post-humanity specifically.
